Japanese Dolphinariums 101: Marine World Uminonakamichi
General Info:
Marine World Uminonakamichi is a Japanese dolphinarium that has been in business for over 30 years. Aside from dolphins, they house multiple species of pinnipeds, 20 species of sharks, and a variety of marine life.
News:
At least 13 finless porpoises have died in their tanks, some after just a matter of days. Source
There were originally 2 pilot whales (as of 2006) but one appears to have died or possibly been transferred as only one remains at the park. Source
The pilot whale that resides there currently (Yuki) is estimated to be around 30 years old. Source
Taiji Affiliation? Yes, but ceased purchasing after the Japanese Association of Zoos And Aquariums (JAZA) ban.
